Amnesty Obama-style
Chad Groening - OneNewsNow - 6/25/2010 4:00:00 AM
An immigration reduction advocacy organization says President Barack Obama may try to use his presidential authority to circumvent Congress and effectively give amnesty to millions of illegal aliens in the U.S.

Eight U.S. senators, led by Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), have sent a letter to the president asking for answers about a plan that would allow Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to provide an amnesty to illegal immigrants, if the administration cannot secure enough votes for a bill in the Senate. The lawmakers are expressing concern over a unilateral plan they say would erode public confidence in the government's commitment to securing the nation's borders. (See earlier story)

Why would the White House consider granting a blanket amnesty
to millions of illegal immigrants?

Rosemary Jenks, director of government relations at Numbers USA, has a handle on the White House's approach to the controversial proposal. She says the president wants to take advantage of two laws that are already on the books -- parole and deferred action -- which basically allow authorities to grant amnesty to individuals on a case-by-case basis, often for humanitarian reasons.

"So they're talking about ignoring the case-by-case individual basis and just saying [they] have the power to grant parole and...the power to grant deferred action, 'so we'll just do that en masse,'" Jenks laments.

She explains that under such an arrangement, any illegal alien apprehended by the authorities could be given deferred action and allowed to stay in the U.S. and obtain a work permit. "And anyone who comes forward and applies," she says, summarizing the government's plan, "'we'll just give them parole and a work permit so they can stay until, at some point in the future, we can convince Congress to pass an amnesty -- and then we'll make them all permanent residents.'"

Jenks says another problem with such a plan is that Homeland Security does not have nearly enough staff to handle paperwork for so many amnesty recipients.

They're not all Americans, the illegal aleins doesn't want to learn English, or follow our laws, or fly our FLAG - Old Glory,or pay taxes. They want their country items to take over our way of life & how we speak & believe. In our History illegal aleins have been sent back to their country, just to protect our way of life, during the Great Depression & end of WW-2. Once again our country is in trouble & nobody is there to help us but, to take advange of our way of life without putting anything into our way of life.
