Deficit Hits Record December High as Democrats Cut Deals on Trillion Dollar Health Care Plan
Our nation’s deficit hit an all-time December high 2009 and marked the 15th consecutive month the federal government has spent more than it has taken in. In the first three months of this fiscal year, the government has already racked up a $388.51 billion budget deficit, and the Obama Administration said that number could top $1.5 trillion this year. The reckless spending in Washington is unacceptable and it’s crippling our nation. But rather than focusing on reducing the deficits and growing the economy, President Obama and the Democrat Majority in Washington continue cutting deals to pass their government takeover of health care.

Today I joined members of the Kansas legislature to say enough is enough at a rally in Topeka. It’s time for Washington politicians to hear from Kansans that we’re not going to stand for their big government agenda. From the unfunded mandates for Medicaid in the health care bill to the Democrat Majority’s failed stimulus plan, the policies coming out of Washington are taking our nation in the wrong direction. It’s time to focus on growing our economy and creating jobs without spending trillions of dollars, and I have worked on a plan to do that. It’s time to bring down health care costs and improve the health care system without a government takeover, and I support a plan to do that. It’s time to stop recklessly spending your money, and I will continue fighting for fiscal responsibility and restraint in Washington.

Don’t Forget: Veterans Resource Fair Tomorrow
My staff and I continue to make constituent services our top priority, and our Veterans Resource Fair tomorrow will give us another opportunity to meet with Kansas veterans, to thank them for their service and to ensure they receive all of the services available to them. We will be at the American Legion Post 400 on Highway 24 in Topeka from 10:00a.m.-1:00p.m. to ensure our Veterans, Active Military and Reserve Component and their families know what resources are available to them. For more information about the Veterans Resource Fair, visit my website at www.lynnjenkins.house.gov or call my Topeka office at (785) 234-5966.

Accepting Intern Applications for Summer 2010
Congressional internships give students a valuable opportunity to learn firsthand about the legislative process and their federal government. We are currently accepting applications for students who are interested in an internship for summer 2010. Interns work alongside my staff and I on issues affecting Kansas, and I think it is very important for our young folks to be involved and understand their federal government.

So if you are in college or know of a college student that is interested in getting involved, encourage them to visit my website. Applications are due on March 1, 2010, and you can find additional internship information by clicking here.
