This is a special note for our friends in Nebraska. This morning you received my e-mail telling you about the situation in the Senate.

The reason I am writing to you specifically is because Senator Ben Nelson holds a pivotal position in health care reform. In the past, he has been a strong champion in defense of life.

However, Senator Nelson has indicated that he would be satisfied with the “less restrictive language” on abortion funding and coverage of the Senate Finance Bill, rather than insisting upon the inclusion of the pro-life Stupak-Pitts language to bar federal funds from going to abortion in health care reform.

Last night, we learned that Majority Leader Reid’s bill includes language mirroring the Capps Amendment, in that it allows the public option to include abortion coverage and allows private plans which cover abortion to accept affordability credits-which are taxpayer-funded.

THIS SENATE HEALTH CARE BILL IS UNACCEPTABLE AND IS AN ENORMOUS EXPANSION OF ABORTION.

If Senator Reid’s bill proceeds, the Senate will approve a mammoth expansion of federally funded abortion. Yes, that means your tax dollars will go to paying for abortions.

Senator Nelson has always worked to defend life. Please urge him NOT to give in now. He MUST oppose all procedural motions on Senator Reid’s bill.

Please CALL Sen. Nelson NOW, at 202-224-6551, and tell him to VOTE NO on ANY PROCEDURAL MOTION to move Senator Reid’s pro-abortion health care bill forward, especially the vote on cloture on the motion to proceed. The vote for cloture on the motion to proceed is expected THIS SATURDAY. A vote in favor of cloture is a vote in favor of this pro-abortion bill.

Don’t forget to get your friends and family together to VISIT Sen. Nelson’s district offices today and Friday. Help us kill this pro-abortion bill by stopping it from moving forward!

Remind Sen. Nelson that real health care respects life!
