If George W. Bush had been the first President to need a teleprompter installed to be able to get through a press conference, would you have laughed and said this is more proof of how inept he is on his own and is really controlled by smarter men behind the scenes?

If George W. Bush had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to take Laura Bush to a play in NYC, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had reduced your retirement plan's holdings of GM stock by 90% and given the unions a majority stake in GM, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had made a joke at the expense of the Special Olympics, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had given Prime Minister Gordon Brown a set of inexpensive and incorrectly formatted DVDs, when Gordon Brown had given him a thoughtful and historically significant gift, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had given the Queen of England an iPod containing videos of his speeches, would you have thought this embarrassingly narcissistic and tacky?

If George W. Bush had bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia and the Emperor of Japan, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had visited Austria and made reference to the non-existent "Austrian language," would you have brushed it off as a minor slip?

If George W. Bush had filled his cabinet and circle of advisers with people who cannot seem to keep current on their income taxes, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had been so Spanish illiterate as to refer to "Cinco de Cuatro" in front of the Mexican ambassador when it was the 5th of May (Cinco de Mayo), and continued to flub it when he tried again, would you have winced in embarrassment?

If George W. Bush had mis-spelled the word "advice" would you have hammered him for it for years like Dan Quayle and potatoe as proof of what a dunce he is?

If George W. Bush had burned 9,000 gallons of jet fuel to go plant a single tree on Earth Day, would you have concluded he's a hypocrite?

If George W. Bush's administration had okayed Air Force One flying low over millions of people followed by a jet fighter in downtown Manhattan causing widespread panic, would you have wondered whether they actually get what happened on 9-11?

If George W. Bush had failed to send relief aid to flood victims throughout the Midwest with more people killed or made homeless than in New Orleans , would you want it made into a major ongoing political issue with claims of racism and incompetence?

If George W. Bush had created the position of 32 Czars who report directly to him, bypassing the House and Senate on much of what is happening in America , would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to do so, would you have approved?

If George W Bush had proposed to double the national debt, which had taken more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had then proposed to double the debt again within 10 years, would you have approved?

So, tell me again, what is it about Obama that makes him so brilliant and impressive? Can't think of anything? Don't worry. He's done all this in 9 months -- so you'll have three years and 3 months to come up with an answer.
And how are you liking that hope and change so far?

Time to Go Back to the Drawing Board on Health Care
The American people have time and again rejected the Democrat’s big government agenda, including their health care reform plans. This week, the voters in Massachusetts sent a loud signal that they are tired of the status quo in Washington by electing Republican Scott Brown to the Senate. There are now 41 Republican senators, making it even more difficult to pass a government takeover of health care.

Despite rumors the House would simply pass the Senate bill, Speaker Pelosi yesterday said she doesn’t have the votes to do that. So as she and Majority Leader Reid struggle to strike a deal in the Democratic Caucus, I say it’s the perfect opportunity to return to the drawing board and work with Republicans on a responsible plan to bring down health care costs without a complete government takeover. I don’t think there is a House member or Senator who disagrees with the goals of bringing down costs and making health care more accessible. We should focus on fixing what’s wrong with the current system without destroying what works for millions of Americans.

Nearing the Debt Limit Again with No Signs of Real Commitment to Debt Reduction
Over the past year, the federal government has been on a reckless spending spree that will double the nation’s debt in five years and triple it in ten. Just a month after increasing the debt limit by $300 billion, the federal government is creeping up on the $12.071 debt limit. Earlier this week, Democratic Senators proposed to increase the debt limit by $1.9 trillion. The sheer magnitude of the amount of debt our nation is piling on is disturbing, but the fact that there have been no serious plans to reduce the debt is just irresponsible governing.

This week President Obama announced his intention to create a deficit reduction commission by executive order. The President’s commission would be charged with studying the federal tax code and entitlement programs and then making recommendations to Congress to be voted on after the 2010 Congressional elections. While it is encouraging that the President is talking about deficit reduction, this commission would exempt annual discretionary spending, which accounts for more than 33 percent of annual federal spending. Because it would be created by executive order, there is no statutory requirement that Congress would have to address its recommendations.

It’s time to get serious about fiscal responsibility in Washington. The size of our national debt is nothing more than generational theft that this Congress is passing on to our children and grandchildren and it is unacceptable. I do believe that a commission established by law, which would have the authority to force real action on deficit reduction is a worthy proposal. I will continue fighting for responsible plans to reduce the debt to ensure future generations aren’t burdened with massive levels of debt they shouldn’t have to pay back.

Nearly One Year Later: Where are the Jobs?
Nearly one year after the $787 billion so-called stimulus became law, millions of Americans still cannot find work. Just yesterday, the Department of Labor announced that initial jobless claims in the week ending January 16 reached 482,000, which is an increase of 36,000 over the previous week. With nearly 12 million Americans out of work, it’s time for the Democrats to admit their stimulus plan hasn’t worked and to bring new ideas to the table to spark economic growth.

I have worked on a “;no cost stimulus plan” and am hopeful that Speaker Pelosi will invite us to the table to share our ideas. Rather than spending billions of dollars on programs that aren’t working, Congress should help small businesses hire more employees. We should reform the unemployment system to help folks find jobs and reduce the federal payroll tax to encourage small businesses to hire more employees. We should finish pending trade agreements, and stop the reckless spending spree going on in Washington. I am confident the economy will turn around, but we could jumpstart economic growth by passing an economic stimulus plan that won’t cost taxpayers billions of dollars.

Spending Time in Kansas
I am thrilled to be home this weekend and am looking forward to spending time with Kansans before returning to Washington next week. Tomorrow, I will make the trip to Manhattan to cheer on K-State’s men’s basketball team as they play Oklahoma State. After the game, I am going to Ottawa to attend the Chamber’s annual dinner. Sunday I will spend time at the AIPAC Israel Action Forum to discuss the important relationship between the United States and Israel. Monday morning I look forward to attending and speaking at the Kansas Electric Cooperative’s annual meeting.

I make it a priority to return home every weekend. If there is ever a meeting or event you would like for me to attend, please do not hesitate to call my Topeka office at (785) 234-5966.

Dear Friend,

Scott Brown's unexpected victory last night in Massachusetts was a shot heard around the world - for life.

Senator-elect Brown made opposition to the health care bill one of the cornerstones of his campaign, stating repeatedly that he would be the key "41st vote" in the Senate that would derail the bill. The people of Massachusetts have made it clear - they are with him. Our fight is long from over, but there is no doubt that this special election is a major victory for those who don't want to see taxpayer-funded abortion.

Our opponents are still pushing hard in Congress, and we need to keep this momentum going. Just yesterday, Senator Barbara Boxer told a reporter that the health care bill will do “nothing to restrict coverage” of abortion. Make no mistake, they will use our tax dollars to pay for abortions – funding the largest expansion of abortion in our nation’s history – if we don’t stop them.

With the March for Life in Washington, DC just two days away, let's send another big message to our elected leaders. I encourage all of you to join us on January 22nd for what is clearly the most important March for Life in history.

If you can’t be here, we are making sure you can still be heard.

Last Friday we announced the first Virtual March for Life, an innovative online campaign that ensures every voice is heard. We are overwhelmed with the outpouring of support we have received thus far.

Over 30,000 Americans are marching online now, and thousands more are signing up each day.

I want to personally thank everyone who is marching for life at this critical time. If you have not already taken a few seconds to sign up for the Virtual March for Life, please follow this link to join now. If you have already joined, please forward my email to everyone you know, and join the thousands of people already on Facebook and Twitter (the hashtag is #march4life) encouraging their friends and followers to join the virtual march as well.

Thank you again for your strong support for life!

For life,

WALK IN THE SPIRIT

WALKING IN THE SPIRIT

The power of having the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. This is the fruit of the Spirit. Paul tells us in Galatians 5 if we walk in the Spirit we shall not fulfill the lust of our flesh of the the Conflict Between the Spirit & the Flesh, the Works of he Flesh, & the Fruit of the Spirit. All are in Galatians 5:16 - 26

Galatians 5:16 - 18 (Conflict Between the Spirit & the Flesh)
16) I say then; Walk in the Spirit & you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
17) For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, & Spirit against the flesh, & these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.
18) But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

Galatians 5:19 -21 (Works of the Flesh)

20) idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissension, heresies,
21) envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, & the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:22 - 26 (Fruit of the Spirit)
22) but the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsufering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness.
23) gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
24) And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions & desires.
25) If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
26) Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

Now we can break down & show where these Fruits of the Spirit goes.
- The first three goes for God, Love, Peace, & Joy. God really looks for these in a Christians; as these are acceptable to God
- The next three are toward man Goodness, Long-suffering, Gentleness, This part of it is our-ward life, people we come in contact with.
- The next three are for self, Faith, Temperance, Meekness.

To produce love, joy, & peace the Holy Spirit has to do it. As humans it is not in our nature. We may try to counterfeit it, but we cannot produce it. It is an act of God. We can only hold love, joy, & peace by receiving Jesus Christ, by faith into our heart. Which in turn the Spirit is there & if we have the Spirit we have the fruits of the Spirit. You know if Christians & the Church would live the way the church of God is to be acting; What world this this would be!! We would be the most mightiest power this world or any world has ever seen. We have really lowered our standards of life!

2 Peter 1:5 - 8
5) But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge,
6) to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness,
7) to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.
8) For if these things are yours & abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We need to adorn the doctrine of Jesus Christ our LORD with in our lives & to grow in the fruits of the Spirit. With just seeing our life of love, joy, peace, gentleness, goodness, & temperance in our language, our expressions, our eating, our drinking, our habits, our home life, our work, & our guarded expression. In other words as Jesus Christ would have us live in the fruits of the Spirit. We then could save our neighbors, our friends, & our family. Plus even people we don't know, just by living our life in the fruits of the Spirit!! Being the same; not hot one day & then cold the next day. Being the same each day. God wanted the church to be the same ALL the time.
PLEASE, PRAY FOR THE ELECTION FOR THE SENATOR SEAT IN MASSACHUSETTS,

I just want who God wants in there!!

THE LORD'S PRAYER

How often do we say the Lord's Prayer without thinking about the meaning of it. Is it a recitation, or prayer.

THE LORD'S PRAYER

Rather cleverly done. This is in two parts, the prayer (in blue type) and GOD (in red type) in response.
It is very, very good.
*********
Our Father Who Art In Heaven.
Yes?
Don't interrupt me. I'm praying.
But -- you called ME!
Called you?
No, I didn't call you.
I'm praying.
Our Father who art in Heaven.
There -- you did it again!
Did what?
Called ME.
You said,
"Our Father who art in Heaven"
Well, here I am..
What's on your mind?
But I didn't mean anything by it.
I was, you know, just saying my prayers for the day.
I always say the Lord's Prayer.
It makes me feel good,
kind of like fulfilling a duty.
Well, all right.
Go on.
Okay, Hallowed be thy name .
Hold it right there.
What do you mean by that?
By what?
By "Hallowed be thy name"?
It means, it means . . good grief,
I don't know what it means.
How in the world should I know?
It's just a part of the prayer.
By the way, what does it mean?
It means honored, holy, wonderful.
Hey, that makes sense..
I never thought about what 'hallowed' meant before.
Thanks.
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in Heaven.
Do you really mean that?
Sure, why not?
What are you doing about it?
Doing? Why, nothing, I guess.
I just think it would be kind of neat if you got
control,of everything down here like you have up
there. We're kinda in a mess down here you know.
Yes, I know;
but, have I got control of you?
Well, I go to church.
That isn't what I asked you.
What about your bad temper?
You've really got a problem there, you know.
And then there's the way you spend
your money -- all on yourself.
And what about the kind of books you read ?
Now hold on just a minute!
Stop picking on me!
I'm just as good as some of the rest
of those People at church!
Excuse ME..
I thought you were praying
for my will to be done.
If that is to happen,
it will have to start with the ones
who are praying for it.
Like you -- for example ..
Oh, all right. I guess I do have some hang-ups.
Now that you mention it,
I could probably name some others.
So could I.
I haven't thought about it very much until now,
but I really would like to cut out some of those things.
I would like to, you know, be really free.
Good.
Now we're getting somewhere.
We'll work together -- You and ME.
I'm proud of You.
Look, Lord, if you don't mind,
I need to finish up here.
This is taking a lot longer than it usually does.
Give us this day, our daily bread.
You need to cut out the bread.
Hey, wait a minute! What is this?
Here I was doing my religious duty,
and all of a sudden you break in
and remind me of all my hang-ups.
Praying is a dangerous thing.
You just might get what you ask for.
Remember, you called ME -- and here I am.
It's too late to stop now.
Keep praying. ( pause . . )
Well, go on.
I'm scared to.
Scared? Of what?
I know what you'll say.
Try ME.
Forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us.
What about insert appropriate person’s name here?
See? I knew it!
I knew you would bring her up!
Why, Lord, she's told lies about me, spread stories.
She never paid back the money she owes me.
I've sworn to get even with her!
But -- your prayer --
What about your prayer?
I didn't -- mean it..
Well, at least you're honest.
But, it's quite a load carrying around all that
bitterness and resentment isn't it?
Yes, but I'll feel better as soon as I get even with her.
Boy, have I got some plans for her.
She'll wish she had never been born.
No, you won't feel any better.
You'll feel worse.
Revenge isn't sweet.
You know how unhappy you are --
Well, I can change that.
You can? How?
Forgive.
Then, I'll forgive you;
And the hate and the sin,
will be another's problem -- not yours.
You will have settled the problem
as far as you are concerned.
Oh, you know, you're right.
You always are.
And more than I want revenge,
I want to be right with You . . (sigh).
All right, all right . .
I forgive her.
There now!
Wonderful!
How do you feel?
Hmmmm. Well, not bad.
Not bad at all!
In fact, I feel pretty great!
You know, I don't think I'll go to bed uptight tonight.
I haven't been getting much rest, you know.
Yeah, I know.
But, you're not through with your prayer, are you?
Go on.
Oh, all right.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Good! Good! I'll do that.
Just don't put yourself in a place
where you can be tempted.
What do you mean by that?
You know what I mean.
Yeah. I know.
Okay.
Go ahead. Finish your prayer.
For Thine is the kingdom,
and the power,
and the glory forever.
Amen.
Do you know what would bring me glory --
What would really make me happy?
No, but I'd like to know.
I want to please you now.
I've really made a mess of things.
I want to truly follow you..
I can see now how great that would be.
So, tell me . . .
How do I make you happy?
YOU just did.

Deficit Hits Record December High as Democrats Cut Deals on Trillion Dollar Health Care Plan
Our nation’s deficit hit an all-time December high 2009 and marked the 15th consecutive month the federal government has spent more than it has taken in. In the first three months of this fiscal year, the government has already racked up a $388.51 billion budget deficit, and the Obama Administration said that number could top $1.5 trillion this year. The reckless spending in Washington is unacceptable and it’s crippling our nation. But rather than focusing on reducing the deficits and growing the economy, President Obama and the Democrat Majority in Washington continue cutting deals to pass their government takeover of health care.

Today I joined members of the Kansas legislature to say enough is enough at a rally in Topeka. It’s time for Washington politicians to hear from Kansans that we’re not going to stand for their big government agenda. From the unfunded mandates for Medicaid in the health care bill to the Democrat Majority’s failed stimulus plan, the policies coming out of Washington are taking our nation in the wrong direction. It’s time to focus on growing our economy and creating jobs without spending trillions of dollars, and I have worked on a plan to do that. It’s time to bring down health care costs and improve the health care system without a government takeover, and I support a plan to do that. It’s time to stop recklessly spending your money, and I will continue fighting for fiscal responsibility and restraint in Washington.

Don’t Forget: Veterans Resource Fair Tomorrow
My staff and I continue to make constituent services our top priority, and our Veterans Resource Fair tomorrow will give us another opportunity to meet with Kansas veterans, to thank them for their service and to ensure they receive all of the services available to them. We will be at the American Legion Post 400 on Highway 24 in Topeka from 10:00a.m.-1:00p.m. to ensure our Veterans, Active Military and Reserve Component and their families know what resources are available to them. For more information about the Veterans Resource Fair, visit my website at www.lynnjenkins.house.gov or call my Topeka office at (785) 234-5966.

Accepting Intern Applications for Summer 2010
Congressional internships give students a valuable opportunity to learn firsthand about the legislative process and their federal government. We are currently accepting applications for students who are interested in an internship for summer 2010. Interns work alongside my staff and I on issues affecting Kansas, and I think it is very important for our young folks to be involved and understand their federal government.

So if you are in college or know of a college student that is interested in getting involved, encourage them to visit my website. Applications are due on March 1, 2010, and you can find additional internship information by clicking here.
