Conservative groundswell unmistakable

Chris Woodward - OneNewsNow - 10/19/2010 3:50:00 AMMid-term elections are only two weeks away, and as conservatives continuously gain support, it appears they are on their way to winning back control in Congress.

Family Research Council (FRC) resident Tony Perkins calls the upcoming election "historic" and says he remains optimistic when he considers the poll numbers reported from across the country.

"The groundswell of support for conservative candidates continues to grow," he accounts. "Sharon Angle in Nevada, taking on Harry Reid, raised $14 million in this last quarter in her campaign. Michelle Bachmann in Minnesota, [whom] Nancy Pelosi has targeted, she raised...[about] $6 million -- a record for a member of Congress."

While he does believe the GOP can win more seats in the Senate, the FRC president thinks Republicans will most likely end up only taking the majority in the House. Even so, he advises conservatives to keep fighting.

"It's got to push on through and continue over the next 18, 24, 36 months to ensure, number one, that those we elect, who are conservatives replacing those moderates and liberals, will govern according to the promises made on the campaign trail," Perkins urges. "And secondly, [we have] to back them up...strengthen them, encourage them and change the culture in Washington, D.C. back to a conservative constitutional-based government."
