Congress Feels the Pressure and Skips Town
Londa,
We expected this week to be busy here in Washington. But when America demanded action, Congress ducked for cover.
Originally scheduled to be in session all of next week, Speaker Pelosi and Leader Reid forced a vote on adjournment on Wednesday. Instead of voting to stop the largest tax increase in American history, the House and Senate decided to leave town early. Instead of meeting their responsibilities, they will throw all the controversial issues into a lame duck session--when they are not constrained by we, the people or our votes.
Obamacare Repeal
Earlier this week, Heritage Action initiated a telephone campaign to pressure the remaining House Members that voted against Obamacare but have not yet signed Discharge Petition #11. Thanks to conservative activists like you, we were able to turn up the heat on these undecided Representatives. Take a look at the heat and Rep. Walt Minnick’s response in Russ Vought’s RedState post.
Repeal Moneybomb
We’re turning up the heat for repeal with our Repeal Obamacare Money Bomb. Our goal is to raise $200,000 by next Friday.
New START
Last month, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved New START and Senator Durbin promised the full Senate would ratify the treaty immediately after the election. We’ll be launching a targeted campaign allowing conservative activists like you to get your Senators on record before they come back to Washington. When the Senate takes up START in a lame duck session, we’ll be ready.
Obama Tax Hikes
According to some reports, a majority of Congress now opposes the Obama Tax Hikes. We’ll be fighting against those hikes during the lame duck session. If you run into your Members of Congress, be sure to remind them about the cost of hiking taxes. See the damage caused by the Obama Tax Hikes at our map.
Activist Platform
While Congress is gone, we’ve got a lot to do: preventing Pelosi and Reid from inflicting more damage during the lame duck session will be critical. We organize our efforts with our online activist platform. Logging in now gives you access to our expert chat from last week, a recent radio interview with Michael Needham, and our ongoing campaigns.
Thank you for joining us in the battle to protect America from Obamacare, tax hikes, and New START. With your help, we’ll keep fighting for our shared conservative values.
Sincerely,
Michael A. Needham
